An open drawing project
- Vector Drawing Software provides tools to create freehand drawings, lines, curves, calligraphy, bitmap images and saved to vector format files. Vector based drawings can be printed at very high-resolution. It can be used to create publication-quality drawings. The drawings can be made print and web friendly by exporting to the desired formats.
- VectorStyler by Numeric Path is a professional vector graphics app, currently in advanced beta, available for both macOS and Windows 10 systems. It offers a comprehensive set of vector drawing tools, vector-based brushes, shape and image effects, corner shapes, mesh and shape-based gradients, collision snapping, multi-page documents, and full.
- Paint online with natural brushes, layers, and edit your drawings. No plug-ins, free. Import, save, and upload images. Inspired by Paint Tool SAI, Oekaki Shi Painter, and Harmony.
- Drawing Vector Shapes. Being that Sketch is a vector drawing application at heart, we might as well take a closer look at how to draw vector shapes from scratch using the Vector and Pencil tools. By the end of this tutorial, you will know what your options are for drawing from scratch in Sketch 3.
alchemy ’alkemē
Figurative: a process by which paradoxical results are achieved or incompatible elements combined with no obvious rational explanation
Alchemy is an open drawing project aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy isn’t software for creating finished artwork, but rather a sketching environment that focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creation process. Experimental in nature, Alchemy lets you brainstorm visually to explore an expanded range of ideas and possibilities in a serendipitous way.
Advanced features such as layers, transparency or the filling tool makes this application one of the most powerful of all drawing apps for Android. Features: SVG Scalable vector graphics import and export feature! Edit your ScribMaster drawings with Inkscape (free) or Adobe Illustrator!

For a quick look at Alchemy in the ‘flesh’, check out the video of Andrew Jones demoing Alchemy in Shanghai – also on YouTube. Along with developing the software itself, the project aims to become involved hands on in workshops, talks, and exercises focused on experimental drawing.

Alchemy 008 – Beta Release
Today we announce the release of Alchemy version 008, a Beta release. Nearly two years on from the first release, the community of users has grown significantly and we believe Alchemy is reliable enough to be labelled ‘Beta’ quality. As a result we are finally opening up the website for everyone to download and try it out.
This release has a number of new modules, improvements, and bug fixes, but perhaps the most important thing is we are also opening up the development of Alchemy for everyone to create their own modules. If you know a little bit of Java or even some Javascript, Actionscript, or Processing, creating an Alchemy module is a simple process outlined in this tutorial. We want Alchemy to be software by artists for artists. How to contribute.

Finally we would like to say a special thank you to Steren Giannini and James Alliban for their code contributions to this release.

UPDATE: Read about Sketchpad 3.0
Where Sketchpad 2.0 introduced non-destructive vector + bitmap editing on the web, Sketchpad 2 webpage.1 (SP2.1) takes that bland package of vector tools and borrows features from Sketch Mobile, an app that exhibited my furthest exploration in creating colorful enviroments. SP2.1 is great at creating background wallpapers quickly now that most of the tools work with gradients, and are all editable in place—this can be especially fun on tools like Mr. Doob’s generative brushes, and the improved stamp tool.
